People’s Land Policy and Land Justice London at Oxford Real Farming Conference

I have been attending this conference for the past 6 years on behalf of the land justice group I am involved in. This year we had a stall and gave out hundreds of our Manifesto for Land Justice. We also sold The Land Magazine and relevant books such as Who Owns England by Guy Shrubsole. I sold 4 books, pleased to sell to people outside of Scotland. I had a few conversations with people who told me that conflicts are very much the same in areas where they live.

The ‘real’ (agroecological/regenerative) farming sector is still very small with agriculture in the UK still dominated by industrial agriculture with farm land being increasingly bought by corporations as an investment. Land prices are going up and it is difficult for new entrants to gain access.

Another issue within this alternative farming sector is that it often relies on volunteers or very low paid workers. This is causing friction within the movement for a new food and farming system. For more information about workers organising see: https://saltunion.org/
