Delay to Land Reform Bill: Statement from Community Land Scotland

CLS has taken a clear stand on what needs to happen, not just tinkering with the current system but directly tackling the huge injustices.

In a previous statement CLS highlighted the example of Taymouth/Glenlyon as emblematic of the land issues Scotland faces.
“The plans by the Discovery Land Company (DLC) to create a gated community for wealthy
international elites around Taymouth Castle have raised considerable local opposition, in part
because in the process DLC have bought out various businesses and facilities around Kenmore. This example would not be addressed by the current proposals for a Public Interest Test, due to the size of the landholdings (Glenlyon Estate 2507.31ha and Taymouth Castle 177.46ha).”

Statement on delay:

The proposals in the Bill must be robust enough to address the substantial problems of the scale and concentration of landownership in Scotland.
If the opportunity is taken to strengthen the proposals this could provide a crucial opportunity to
ensure that the Bill can work for all of Scotland’s communities and will deliver meaningful change. These proposals will help provide further improve transparency of land ownership, help ensure land holdings of significance deliver in the public interest and empower communities by providing more opportunities to own land.”
